One Community, One Symphony
Back by popular demand, the One Community–One Symphony project is being planned for the 2009-2010 school year.
As a director of instrumental or choral music in a Windsor or Essex County secondary school, you are invited to rehearse and perform selections from Holst’s orchestral masterpiece The Planets as part of your regular mix of works for the upcoming concert season. Arrangements are available at Belle Air Music for your perusal and selection.
The culmination of this collaboration is an extraordinary concert on April 10, 2010 that brings together hundreds of musicians from across the county. Band students will perform together as a special “mass band” at the Windsor Armouries on the first half of the concert. The WSO will perform a suite from The Planets on the second half of the concert, and will be joined by choral students performing John Williams’ Duel of the Fates from Star Wars and the patriotic chorale I Vow To Thee My Country that Holst quoted in Jupiter. The event is free for all participating ensembles and a limited number of tickets will be available for sale as a fund-raiser for school music activities.
WSO Music Director John Morris Russell or Assistant Conductor Peter Wiebe will visit your school starting in the fall to rehearse with your ensemble and share their insight about the historical and musical context of this landmark symphonic work.
