About the WSYO & WSJYO

The Windsor Symphony Youth Orchestras (WSYO & WSJYO) exist to help young people develop their talent and realize their full potential through performing orchestral music at a high caliber. However, participating in the Windsor Symphony Youth Orchestra program is not just about the music, it also involves teamwork, leadership, and dedication to the program and your craft. We strongly believe that the WSYOs develops essential lifelong skills and habits.

If your child is interested in becoming a member of the WSYOs, please read our FAQ’s, and email education@windsorsymphony.com to inquire about auditions.

Yes. The Windsor Symphony Junior Youth Orchestra (WSJYO) is for string players ideally ages 9-14.

How do I audition for the WSYO?

By audition. See WSYO Auditions.

How do I audition the Windsor Symphony Junior Youth Orchestra (WSJYO)?

By recommendation of your private teacher. A minimum level of RCM grade 3 or Suzuki book 3 is recommended.

When are rehearsals for WSYO or WSJYO?

Mostly Sunday afternoons, between early September and mid-May, with most rehearsals between 1:00-2:15 PM (WSJYO) and 2:30-5:15 (WSYO).

    Where are the rehearsals?

All rehearsals will be at the Capitol Theatre (121 University Ave. W), unless specified.

    What is expected for rehearsals?

Learn your notes and rhythms before rehearsals. Always have a pencil with an eraser and all your music.

    What about attendance?

Attendance at rehearsals is vital. The orchestra needs to hear your part, and you need to learn together with the ensemble, listening and adjusting. While we understand now more than ever that there are times it may be necessary for you to be absent, please know that when you are gone, you diminish someone else’s experience.
